How Schools Are Dealing With the Changes in the Executive MBA Program and Its Demographic

Before, EMBA students attended B-schools to improve their skills and perform better for the companies that were supporting their way. There is an increasing number of people no longer relying on their companies for the expenses of the executive MBA program, though. They say that this is why a lot of people in the ocurse are ending up shifting careers during or after the course.

The executive MBA was not as much of a household name until fairly recently. About three or so years ago, more and more people started asking for a career version of the EMBA. Career changes seemed to be the order of the day too in several researches investigating students' intentions and desires with the EMBA.

The university is becoming a kind of "time-out" space now, where the student stops for a moment to consider whether or not he needs a career change. A lot of Executive MBA takers are electing to actually do that career change, one way or another. Many B-schools started by bringing in career counselling specifically to coach EMBA students, whose needs vary from those studying full-time.

Most of the persons in the Executive version of the MBA simply trump their non-executive counterparts when it comes to the years they have spent in the actual business arena. However, most of these are still being helped along their professional routes by the universities they attend. Still, majority of the students are complaining that their universities do not provide the help they need.

Now, most business schools provide EMBA students with career counseling services and resume review, which often replaces actual recruiting, and many graduate students are satisfied. Other career-related services are dished out by other colleges. The main goal is to teach graduates the skills important to develop their careers now and in the future.

The number of students seeking assistance is still rising. Unfortunately, there seem to be more degree-holders than there are actualy professions. With that said, many students take the EMBA to make connections in hope of having a change.

Most EMBA programs are hesitant to restructure and formalize career programs, thinking many companies are still willing to sponsor majority of students. However, that is now a thing of the past. This is now becoming a course where students decide to take themselves from their companies and to other ones.

It is not as it once was. More and more institutions are joining forces to help students make a career shift. Most EMBA universtities still do not provide true career programs, even so.

Many people say the ideal would be to have placement and job fairs regularly at EMBA colleges. However, a number of colleges are not entirely keen on the idea. Universities are saying that when the students come into the course holding down a position with a company, there would be little need for placement services.

The Executive MBA program is basically a resource center, not a hiring center. While some say firms will soon resume sponsorships for their employees, most see the EMBA becoming a place for professional change. The academic establishments merely need to ensure that their programs remain relevant, whatever happens.
